Adler Thermae, Bagno Vignoni, Tuscany, Italy
Set between the wine areas of Montepulciano and Montalcino, Tuscany's Adler Thermae Resort and Spa is a pioneering five-star hotel fed by the ancient and healing thermal waters of Bagno Vignoni.
The resort, which was known for its thermal baths, spa treatments and authentic local cuisine, has added an on-property vineyard and winery known as Tenuta Sanoner (Sanoner Estate).
Located a short walk uphill from the resort, the estate overlooks the cypress trees and rolling hills of the Val d'Orcia and valley that's also a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The vineyard has vines bearing Sangiovese, the region's classic grape, which is used to make red, rosé and sparkling rosé under Adler's own AETOS label.
The Estate is also home to hundreds of olive trees and produces its own organic olive oil.
The resort itself has 90 luxury rooms and suites, each with a balcony or terrace overlooking the Val d'Orcia.
Along with Adler Thermae, the Sanoner family also owns two resorts in Italy's Dolomites mountain region.
The Sanoners have been in the hotel business since 1810, when they opened their first small inn, and the hotels are currently managed by the family's sixth generation.
