Colours of Barbados

Utilizing a wall surrounding a construction site, Bridgetown's "Colours of Barbados" exhibition offers a wide variety of art created by local artists, who were invited to offer their art to the elements and to the world.

The Richard Haynes Boardwalk is an out-and-back 1.6-mile trail along a section of coast in Bridgetown, Barbados. In addition to offering great views of the Caribbean Sea, it is also currently home to "Colours of Barbados," promoted as the "longest" art exhibition in the country.

Utilizing a metal and wood wall surrounding a construction site, the display offers a wide variety of art created by local artists, who were invited to offer their art to the elements and to the world. The exhibition is intended to create a distraction and enhancement to the boardwalk experience, with the art creating a space of vibrant color and self-expression.

Beside most pieces is a placard including the artist's name, the title of the artwork, and an artist's statement often containing additional information about the art. Some pieces also include a streetlamp above to illuminate the art and boardwalk in the evening, adding an additional industrial element to the work on display.
