Copenhagen will begin its term as UNESCO World Capital of Architecture 2023 on 17 January.

Copenhagen, Denmark's capital, sits on the coastal islands of Zealand and Amager, and is linked to Malmo in Sweden by the Ă–resund Bridge.

Indre By, the city's historic centre, has Frederiksstaden, an 18th-century rococo district, home to the royal family's Amalienborg Palace.

Nearby are Christiansborg Palace and the Renaissance-era Rosenborg Castle.



Highlights of the year will include :

Open House Copenhagen

Open House Copenhagen (25 to 26 March 2023).

The initiative is a partnership between UNESCO and the(International Union of Architects.

The title is for three-years but Copenhagen will focus on 2023 with Copenhagen in Common.

This will see 300 events in 2023, that focus on History; Everyday and Nature.

is a free that offers insights into the architecture that shapes how people live, work and go to school along with grand buildings that are normally closed for public.

28th UIA World Congress

The 28th UIA World Congress in the city (2 to 6 July 2023) at the Bella Center Copenhagen, will promote architecture as a tool to reach the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Danish Architecture Center

The Copenhagen in Common theme will title an exhibition (4 May to 22 October) at the Danish Architecture Center.

This will look at what Copenhagen does well and what still needs work in terms of the city architecture.

A permanent exhibition on Danish architecture called Made in Denmark will open on 24 March, which will chart the country's progress from the Viking Age to present day

In addition, a series of some 21 new pavilions, designed by leading Danish architect firms, will be established along the harbour front.
