I'm in love with Auberge de la Selune.
IN LOVE.
Situated on the edge of La Sélune, this restaurant is in-house of the Auberge de la Selune, a Logis-Hotel.
There are a number of regional go-to local restaurants that work ´just finé for me … but the Auberge? Is memorable.
It puts many to shame.
Dining on the terrace in summer months, will find you immersed in their lush garden; their own personal invitation to enjoy your time with them. It is chaleureux.
When the main waiter comes to the table (who has been serving for 35 years), there is a dynamic that is the essence of service itself, standing before you.
How does someone like this make every single person feel like an old friend?
Engaged, knowledgeable, friendly and caring, I guess what best describes him is his ineffable nature.
We reserved for midday - either a set bistro menu, or a la carte.
As part of our aperitif, my dear French friend ordered les bulots.
I had never had them, and in general shy away from oysters, clams, moules frites, escargot … but I decided if there was anywhere to test them, it would be here.
I was astonished. With just a tinge of salty, they tasted so softly of the sea.
Dipped in homemade mayonnaise, it opened our meal with pleasure.
Next was velouté de carottes et gingembre dotted with fresh garden peas. Burstingly fresh.
Then the plat … which I neglected to catch a photo of, as I dove right in … tenderly dressed veau with rice and baby veg.
Dessert?
It was parfait. I've not ever had fromage blanc anything short of liquid … paired with garden rasberries, strawberries, meringue, sorbet et coulis … it disappeared.
I come here on occasion — but not often enough.
Know that.
You'll come back too..
