Julian Alps, Slovenia
Slovenia has 10,000 signposted hiking trails, of all levels of difficulty,from vine-bearing hills to the low mountain range with picturesque villages, forests and waters.
There is also the Alpine region where hikers can climb the highest mountains in the Julian Alps.
Rhodope Mountains, Bulgaria
From September onwards, the forests foliage in Bulgaria changes from green to yellow and red.
The Rhodope Mountains, Bulgaria's largest mountain range, offers the best autumn panorama in the country.
In this sparsely populated area, travellers can discover lush meadows and rugged cliffs and deep gorges criss-crossed by rivers.
While the western part of Bulgaria is characterised by mountains, the eastern part is mainly made up of smaller hills. Because the terrain is so varied, there are hikes at all levels of difficulty.
However, hikers should prepare well, as only the most popular trails are signposted.

Casentino, Italy
