Gift of Go is offering An Exploration of the Highlands of Brazil expedition itinerary in May 2024.

Set in Brazil's Serra do Espinhaço, the trip will be an immersive two week 200-km journey into one of the most 'under-visited places on the planet'.

During the trip, eight travellers and 10 expedition crew members will trek, horseride, boat, bike, bushwhack and overland their way across historic trails and backroads.

They will also take in little-visited UNESCO sites, the Sempre Vivas National Park and a Vesperata celebration in Diamantina.

Once the centre of the global diamond trade, Brazil's Serra do Espinhaço was abandoned and largely forgotten by the outside world for nearly two centuries.

It now has three UNESCO designations, dozens of conservation units (8 of which will be crossed during this expedition) and globally recognised biodiversity areas in the Brazilian Savanna the Atlantic Rainforest.

Brazil continues to be one of the undervisited countries (ranking just 47th in international tourism receipts in 20190.

This is despite ranking 6th in natural & cultural resources in the World Economic Forum's T&T Competitiveness Index

In 2022, the Sempre Vivas National Park, received 51 visitors compared to 250,000 to Patagonia's Torres del Paine (Patagonia) and 9,457 to the Gates of the Arctic (the least-visited US National Park).

Gift of Go is an expedition operator offering a limited number of journeys in little-known parts of the world through its expertly researched and curated Collections'.

The inaugural Collection is set in Brazil's little-known Serra do Espinhaço region, where the company will lead 14, 21, and 28-day trips between March and September 2024.

Gift of Go's founders are Eddie Lott, who has 20-years studing Brazilian history, society and geography, and Brazilian-born Elisa Oliveira who has dedicated herself to understanding and documenting the Espinhaco's geography, logistics, infrastructure, and to strengthening communities here.
