IDEC SPORT completes Tea Route in record time

AO-IDEC-lead

IDEC SPORT is one of the fastest ocean-going sailing vessels.

She is the current holder of the Jules Verne Trophy for circumnavigation of the world and won the Route du Rhum three times

In February 2020 the trimaran captained by Francis Joyonn with Christophe Houdet, Bertrand Delesne, Antoine Blouet and Corentin Joyon completed the Tea Route voyage between Hong Kong and London in a world record time of 31 days 23 hours 36 minutes and 46 seconds.

The China Sea, Indian Ocean and South and North Atlantic represent a voyage halfway around the world.

In the middle third of the 19th Century, the clippers, which carried tea from China to Britain, would race to be first ship to dock in London with the new crop of each season.

Clipper ships were built for speed, and the Great Tea Race of 1866 saw the Taeping beat other vessels by crossing in 99 days.

The Cutty Sark

The Cutty Sark, which is incorporated into an attraction at Greenwich, London is the world's only surviving extreme clipper, with most of the hull fabric and display dating back to its original construction.
