Madeira, which is known as the floating garden island, hosts a spectacular Flower Festival in Funchal, the island's capital.

Usually held in May, it will take place in 2020 from 3 to 27 September 2020.

Highlights of the festival always includes the Children's Parade (5 September 2020) involving hundreds of youngsters in colourful flowers.

The day after, the grand parade through the main streets of Funchal sees flower dancers, accompanied by huge floral floats.

Throughout the festival, visitors can enjoy delicate floral carpets and colourful shop window displays along with music concerts and artistic performances.

The Flower Exhibition in the city's Praca do Povo is another annual attraction.
