Must-See Gems of the Davao City Region, Philippines

As of 2020, travel opportunities have been limited, but when you get an opportunity to take that vacation, the island of Mindanao provides no shortage of interesting and unique sites.

Davao City comprises hundreds of thousands of acres. The city's 244,000 hectares of space equates to 602,924 acres. That makes Davao the eighth largest city in the world in terms of land area.

At 2,954 meters (9,692 ft), Mount Apo boasts the highest mountain peak in the Philippines. It is one of the country's most popular climbing destinations.

Also, don't miss these tourist attractions if you visit this region:

SM Mall (City Davao):

The enormous size you find in Davao applies to the malls as well. If you want to experience one such monumental attraction of the Philippines, come to SM Mall of Davao City.

The store started out as a simple shoe mart sixty years ago. Over the decades that followed, it morphed into one of the largest shopping facilities in the world.

With a floor area of 847,500 square feet, SM mall holds about 300 stores in up to four floors. On each of the floors, multiple hallways in different directions seem endless at least from a distance.

Also, you can find and shop at the other spacious malls Davao City offers.

Eden Park

Visiting Eden Park gives you an unforgettable experience in nature. Enjoy a romantic, relaxed atmosphere amid all of the lush, green vegetation. If you are appreciative of natural beauty, plan to spend a day at this site and stop at the various scenic spots.

Crocodile Park

Crocodile Park is a full-fledged zoo. You may not find another zoo with so many crocodiles. As many as 80 to 100 crocodiles live close together in one pen.

Other animals there command quite a bit of attention. One such unique creature--the Indian Peafowl surprises visitors with its 16-foot stiff fan of feathers. You will also hear the distinct, raucous scream of the sulphur-crested cockatoo.

In addition, the zoo houses the fruit bat, lion, tiger, ostrich, the Palawan bearcat, python, and white doves to name a few others. Finally, you can get a souvenir picture taken holding a small crocodile or picking up a Burmese python.

Aside from the main zoo itself, you might want to visit the butterfly garden. Then head over to the historical site with tribal huts. You will see areas loaded with bamboo--some of the tallest grass in the world.

Jack's Ridge

This restaurant offers a spectacular view of the city from high up in elevation. On the outside deck, you can relax and sit by the ledge overlooking the lit-up city at night. During the day, you can see farther out than at night. At lunch, spend time gazing at the Davao Gulf and the partially cloud-covered mountains in the distance.

While there, check out the colorful flowers including the bougainvillea as well as other scenic photo-taking sections. With the many scenic, natural views, this special venue is also an opportune wedding location.

Sea of Clouds

Head over to this site in the early morning for a spectacular sunrise overlooking high mountain peaks. From Sonnenberg View on one of the mountains, you look down at the clouds nestled among the hills below them.

Paradise Island

You might want to head over to Samal Island by boat for a visit to Paradise Island about five minutes from Davao.

This section of the Samal shoreline spans an estimated 2,600 feet. A clean white sand beach characterizes Samal and the Paradise Island shore.
