New routes in Iceland

Iceland, a Nordic island nation, is defined by its dramatic landscape with volcanoes, geysers, hot springs and lava fields.

Massive glaciers are protected in the Vatnajökull and Snæfellsjökull national parks.

Most of the population lives in the capital, Reykjavik, which runs on geothermal power and is home to the National and Saga museums, tracing Iceland's Viking history.

The Westfjords Way

The Westfjords peninsula was created by the Ice age 10 thousand years ago.

It has deep fjords that provide a driving route with cliffs, craggy mountains, valleys, lowlands and unique flora and fauna.

West Iceland has officially opened the Vestfjarðaleiðin (Westfjords Way), a circular driving route that claims to be one of the most scenic and cultural driving routes in the world.

The route was instigated by the people of the Westfjords and, with the opening of the Dýrafjörður Tunnel, will be open year-round.

The Diamond Circle Route

The Diamond Circle, a new touring route in North Iceland now officially opened, connects some of Iceland's most spectacular sites.

These include Goðafoss waterfall, Mývatn lake, Dettifoss waterfall, Ásbyrgi canyon and the town of Húsavík.

The Goðafoss waterfall is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland.

It is where the water of the river Skjálfandafljót falls from a height of 12 meters over a width of 30 meters.
