Palé Hall is an historic five AA Red Star country house retreat in the Dee Valley on the edge of Snowdonia National Park.

It is situated in 50 acres of grounds, with the River Dee running through.

The property, whose origins are closely linked with the Victorian-era railway boom, was built in 1871 as a private residence by Sir Henry Robertson.

He was the industrialist and railway entrepreneur who set up much of Wales' steam railway infrastructure.

Rich in antiques, original features and wood panelling, Palé Hall has 18 individually designed and sumptuous bedrooms in the main house, including two in turrets - and an additional four garden suites within the grounds.

The Henry Robertson Dining Room has been awarded 3 AA Rosettes for its cuisine and a Michelin green star for its noted sustainable practices (the hotel has its own on-site hydroelectric plant).

Palé Hall is within reach of Mount Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, and picturesque Portmeirion village.

There are the castles of Harlech, Beaumaris and Conwy, plus the coastal resorts of Llandudno and Aberdovey.

The Llangollen Steam Railway is one of the region's best-preserved heritage railway lines, which Henry Robertson was instrumental in creating.

Palé Hall has become one the latest members of Pride of Britain Hotels.
