Brimming with cultural treasures and tons of things to do, Reykjavik is the perfect spot to start an Icelandic adventure. Locking in a sensational stay in the heart of Iceland's capital city is key to take advantage of the city's walkability—see its many sights, enjoy its amazing culinary scene, and partake in nightlife and tours. Iceland Parliament Hotel's location in City Centre is just one reason this Curio Collection by Hilton property stands out from other lodging options.

The Iceland Parliament Hotel is a stunning blend of historical preservation and modern luxury, occupying a seven-building complex with each reflecting a distinct era of Icelandic history. It may look historic because the site was not always a hotel. Redevelopment of the property in the center of Reykjavik began with meticulous efforts and community input to transform Landsímahúsið, the former headquarters of Iceland Telecom; the historic Women's School, built in 1878; and Independence Hall, which doubles as an event space and historic music venue. The site transformed into a 163-room hotel in early 2023. This redevelopment emphasized sustainability and design, celebrating Iceland's history while offering state-of-the-art amenities.

After an overnight flight followed by an immediate day-long tour of South Iceland (see content to the left) it was wonderful to check into the Parliament. Check in was easy and convenient, as expected from a Hilton brand hotel, and I made my way to my King Superior Room and relaxed for a minute and enjoyed the micro-balcony view of one of my favorite cities in the world. The faint bustle of nearby nightlife enticed me to go back out, but the scald-proof shower (water in Iceland can get HOT) and 400 thread count sheets beckoned stronger.

For those who want the best, the Parliament Suite is a two-bedroom, 914 sq. ft. escape with a rooftop view. It is the perfect spot for a party of four and features a separate living room, dining room, and two bathrooms. In pleasant weather, relax on the spacious corner balcony while sipping an espresso.

The hotel's amenities shine as brightly as the northern lights, which I actually got to spot right in town over The Pond (just a block away from the hotel). If inclined, I could indulge in rejuvenating treatments at the luxurious spa, complete with traditional Icelandic geothermal hot tubs and saunas. I savored local and international flavors at Hjá Jóni restaurant—the breakfast is top notch. Craft cocktails flow at the lively Telebar. And fitness enthusiasts can enjoy the gym 24/7.

The Hilton property provides many special offers, including double points, AARP and AAA rates, and seasonal promotions. I definitely recommend opting for the included breakfast; diners can choose from a traditional menu or indulge in an expansive buffet of skyr, salmon, fresh fruit, grains, and pastries. The hotel has seven meeting rooms, so it is always full of life—just like the city it represents.

Almost everything you would want to see in a first trip to Reykjavik is a short walk from The Iceland Parliament Hotel. The nearby dining scene is flourishing with stellar restaurants, lively bars, and a few breweries and taprooms. Harpa's dazzling glass halls sit on the shores near the Old Harbour (which is where you want to go for modern attractions and tours—I recommend The Tour Guy), marvel at Hallgrímskirkja's beauty, and catch the colorful vibes of Laugavegur street. A taxi or 15-minute e-scooter ride will get you to Sky Lagoon!
