With small crowds, white sand, and clear blue water, Anna Maria Island, Florida, is a beach lover's dream 50 miles south of Tampa on the Gulf of Mexico. The hippest spot to stay here—and the closest to the water—is the Seaside at Anna Maria Island Inn where guests can walk directly from their room into the sand and enjoy a cocktail while viewing a perfect sunset.

Sunsets are complimentary at Seaside at Anna Maria Island Inn

The Anna Maria Island Inn is a complex of seven properties, most located on a stretch of waterfront on the Gulf Coast of Florida from Bradenton Beach to Holmes Beach. The Seaside was completely renovated in 2022, and the result is a fresh, clean appearance with a kitschy and hip style. Rooms are stocked with unexpected conveniences, like extra sheets and blankets, beach/pool towels, deluxe versions of board games, and all the bar tools (including a blender) to prepare the perfect drink while relaxing in the sand.

Stepping out onto the furnished, semi-private veranda offers a space to relax and watch beachgoers or catch a beautiful sunset. On the beach, lounge chairs and umbrellas are provided for guests. The pool is small, but so is the Inn. The Inn's size creates a commonality between guests who pass each other in the sand, congregate on the balcony lounge area, or share an experience at the Inn's tiki tables.

The sundries selection at Seaside is limited, but just a short walk down the beach a strip mall provides any necessity for a traveler. There is also no restaurant attached to Seaside. A lively neighborhood bar is nearby, but the dining highlight of the area is the Beach House Waterfront Restaurant. Less than a mile from the Inn, Beach House offers farm-to-table, fine-casual dining with waterside seating.

Nearby, manatees and dolphins play in Anna Maria Sound, and there is no wonder why Anna Maria Island is considered one of the best beach destinations in the United States.

INNKEEPERS TIP: The biggest decision to make when booking a room at the Seaside at Anna Maria Island Inn is to choose the first or second floor. Do you like the idea of walking right out into the sand? Or is the idea of an elevated view of a sunset on the Gulf the perfect attraction? The innkeeper we spoke with preferred the elevated view of the second floor. He also noted there is nothing stopping any guest from taking a stroll up to the second floor to enjoy the vantage point. So, there is a best of both worlds!
