With farm lodging, guests pay for the experience more than the room. City travelers look to connect to the earth and provide an educational experience for their family. Couples find this sensational stay appeals to a rustic romantic side, too.

Mary's Land Farm is a hidden gem (to out of state travelers) in Howard County, Maryland. This peaceful, Christian countryside retreat, just minutes from the bustling energy of Baltimore and Washington, D.C., makes for a perfect weekend getaway for those looking for a family-friendly farm adventure or a taste of farm-to-table living.

The inn offers a selection of charming rooms combining rustic aesthetics with modern comforts to ensure a cozy and restful stay. Each room is thoughtfully designed with charming farmhouse décor, plush linens, and modern amenities such as Wi-Fi, climate control, and en-suite bathrooms. Some accommodations even feature private porches where guests can sip their morning coffee while watching the sunrise over the fields—or during the active season in the fall people watch locals coming for farm events.

During our visit, we stayed in Whispering Pines, which features exposed original brick and two queen beds. The views face the farm market and fields. This 370-sq. ft. space is great for couples, longer stays, and small families with its furnished kitchenette, gas fireplace, jacuzzi tub with separate shower, and heated bathroom floor.

The inn is memorable. Mornings start with a delicious breakfast made with organic ingredients sourced right from the farm. For those who enjoy cooking, guests have access to a fully equipped community kitchen to prepare meals with items from the farm's on-site market. The farm hosts a variety of workshops, ranging from cheese-making and beekeeping to gardening and cooking classes. These hands-on experiences allow guests to learn new skills while connecting with nature. For those seeking a truly rejuvenating experience, the farm hosts the occasional wellness retreat featuring yoga, meditation, or holistic practices.

A stay at Mary's Land Farm would not be complete without taking advantage of the many activities available on the property. One of the biggest draws of the farm is its friendly collection of animals—I took time to "snuggle" with some baby cows. Guests can also meet chickens, goats, and sheep. Scheduled farm tours expose visitors to sustainable farming practices, regenerative agriculture, and the importance of local food systems.

Off the farm, Howard County offers a perfect mix of history, nature, and entertainment. I suggest everyone should explore Ellicott City or visit the scenic Patapsco Valley State Park for hiking. For arts and culture, check out Merriweather Post Pavilion's live concerts and performances. I also recommend stopping by Reckless Shepherd Brewing in Columbia or Rathskeller in Elkridge for some libations. And stop in The Breadery in Catonsville for an awesome selection of baked goods, curated craft beers and wines, and other specialty products—family and veteran owned!
