Luxury Travel Intelligence has named The Bürgenstock Hotel as one of the world's best new hotel openings for 2017.

It is located on the Bürgenberg mountain ridge offering views of the Swiss alps 500m above Lake Lucerne.

The Bürgenstock Resort, perched 2,800 feet above Lake Lucerne, opened in August after nine years of planning and construction – and US$500m investment.

Of the four hotels at the resort, the contemporary Bürgenstock Hotel has 102 rooms and suites, a restaurant, alpine spa, lobby bar, wine cellar and cigar lounge.

All rooms and suites have fireplaces and impressive bathrooms. Guests may arrive directly at the hotel entrance via the famous Bürgenstock funicular railway."

The Bürgenstock Resort dates back to 1873 and has been a favoured destination for celebrities including Sofia Loren and Audrey Hepburn.

At the core of the resort the newly-built Bürgenstock Hotel has 102 rooms and suites with views across Lake Lucerne.

Guests arriving by private boat transfer across Lake Lucerne get up to the hotel via the new Bürgenstock Funicular Railway.

Connected by the Felsenweg cliff path, the Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne offers a range of amenities within 60 hectares of pristine Alpine forest and entirely carbon neutral.

The four hotels at the car-free resort are the Bürgenstock Hotel,Waldhotel, Palace Hotel and Taverne 1879.
