The Centre for Alternative Technology, mid-Wales

AO-CAT-1

The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) ) is an internationally renowned environmental education charity and eco centre based near Machynlleth in Wales.

CAT provides 'inspiration, education and training in solutions to the climate and biodiversity emergency'.

Its key activities include a visitor centre where people can see solutions in action, residential short courses, vocational training and postgraduate degrees in a wide range of sustainability-related topics.

Online courses and events are offered alongside in-person learning.

CAT was founded in 1973 on the site of an abandoned quarry.

What was once a slate waste, is now home to gardens, ponds, woodlands, environmental buildings, integrated renewable energy systems and a range of exhibitions and displays.

It is a living example of the possibilities for transformation and regeneration as we work together to build a sustainable future for all humanity as part of a thriving natural world.

The Centre will offer new visitor experiences from May 2021, which will focus on 'celebrating the natural world, including gardening for nature, nature detectives and moth nights.
