The Channel Islands National Park

The Channel Islands National Park encompasses five islands and their ocean environment, preserving and protecting a wealth of natural and cultural resources.

Isolation over thousands of years has created unique animals, plants, and archeological resources and preserved a place where visitors can experience coastal California as it once was.

Although the islands are close to the shore of densely populated Southern California, their isolation has left them relatively undeveloped.

The park covers 249,561 acres and is home to a wide variety of significant natural and cultural resources.

It was designated a US National Monument in 1938, a National Biosphere Reserve in 1976 and then promoted to a National Park in 1980.

Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary encompasses the waters six nautical miles around Channel Islands National Park.

Island Packers

Island Packers, a longtime concessioner to Channel Islands National Park, is celebrating its 50th year of providing transportation, education and research support for the Channel Islands.

Island Packers has a four-vessel fleet including three fast catamarans capable of providing transportation for hundreds of people daily and making landings at multiple islands.
