The Parc national de forêts, which is the 11th French National Park, opened on 1 November 2020.
Covering 241,781 hectares between, it becomes the largest in France and takes in 130 villages.
Within the park there are forests of beech and oak that date back over 200 years and are some of the oldest woodlands in France
The forest is home to stags and wild boar along with the black stork, which is far less common than the white one and on the elusive side.
The rare Venus slipper orchid thrives within the forest and there is the chance to visit the Cascade d'Etufs waterfallVisitors canenjoy the park via narrow roads that go into hidden valleys and via more than 1,000km of hiking trails.
The Parc national de forêts is part of a diversity plan, which aims to fight against the 'artificialization of soils and the misdeeds of intensive agriculture'.
