Sail Boston will welcome the Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta in June 2017.
Royal Greenwich, UK, will be the first host of the Rendez in April 2017.
Boston is the only selected American port in the Regatta which is a 7,000 nautical mile transatlantic race visiting six countries.
Massachusetts is planning to use the event to encourage visitors to experience the destination from late spring to early autumn, as well as during the Regatta, to enjoy nautical themed activities from sailing to kayaking across the Bay State.
Whale watching
Whale watching is one of the state's well-known activities, providing the opportunity for an up close viewing and discovery.
Excursion offers the chance to see several different species and whales, who are often called by name as they return to the Massachusetts' bay each year.
Visitors can go whale watching in a variety of locations along the bay and coastal areas of Massachusetts including the Boston area and Cape Cod and the Islands.
Boston harbour
In the summer months, a Liberty Fleet Tall Ship or an Adirondack III offer trips around sail around Boston Harbour.
The Rigged Ships
The Liberty Clipper and the Liberty Star are two traditional rigged ships that take visitors on a tall ship tour, including 34 accessible islands that are part of the Boston Harbour Islands National Park Area.
North of Boston
Visitors can discover hidden beaches including Crane Beach and the Singing Beach at Manchester-by-the-Sea.Kayaking at Lowell Kayak Centre is arranged through the Merrimac River Rowing Association.
Nantasket down to New Bedford and Plymouth on the South Shore
A full scale reproduction of the Mayflower II, the ship that brought the Pilgrims to Plymouth, is moored in Plymouth Harbour.
Visitors can also cruise Plymouth Harbour via the Pilgrim Belle, a Mississippi-style paddle wheeler.
Cape Cod & the Islands of Nantucket & Martha's Vineyard
The Cape Cod peninsula offers a variety of stunning beaches including 44,000 acres of the Cape Cod National Seashore and two nearby islands, Martha's Vineyard & Nantucket which are accessible via ferry from two locations on Cape Cod.
