The Romantic Cities in Rhineland-Palatinate are an association of Mainz, Trier, Koblenz, Speyer, Worms, Neustadt/Weinstraße and Idar-Oberstein.

Together they offer a range of cultural and culinary opportunities embracing vineyards, cathedrals and historic old towns between the Rhine and Moselle rivers.

Mainz

Mainz/Rheinhessen is the only German city included in the Great Wine Capitals Global Network, where it joins the wine areas Bordeaux and Napa Valley.

Trier

Trier, Germany's oldest city and known as the "Second Rome", offers visitors the chance to appreciate treasures from over two milleniums of history.

Worms

Worms hides a very special treasure: the Nibelungs' gold. With every step, visitors to Worms encounter the Nibelung myth of love, pride and pugnacity. A town made for heroes!

The Nibelungen-Bierradtour (Nibelung beer cycling tour) is just the thing for anyone wishing to experience the Electoral Palatinate Beer Route

The route from Speyer to Worms is part of the Electoral Palatinate Beer Route and comprises 23 breweries, from Neustadt an der Weinstraße to the northernmost point of Worms.

Neustadt a.d.Weinstraße

Neustadt an der Weinstraße and its villages are located in the wine-growing mountains at the entrance to the Pfälzerwald Nature Park.

The Almond Blossom Festival

The Almond Blossom Festival in Neustadt-Gimmeldingen (April) is held along on the German Wine Route, and traditionally opens the wine-festival season.

Koblenz

Koblenz is the ideal starting point from which to follow the Rhine romance trail, make an excursion into the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Koblenz has the Deutsches Eck, the spectacular cable car up to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, and is a popular destination for many river cruise ships, but also a meeting place for many cycling enthusiasts.

It is where two of the country's major cycling routes, the Moselle and the Rhine cycle routes, intersect.

    Speyer

    Speyer is the place that witnessed the birth of the Protestant movement and, during 2017, the local diocese celebrates its 200th anniversary focussed around Speyer cathedral, the world's largest Romanesque cathedral and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

    More German emperors and kings are buried in the cathedral (than anywhere else in Germany.

    The area also offers access to neighbouring regions such as the Black Forest, Alsace or Luxembourg.
