València has been named the World Design Capital for 2022, by the World Design Organisation, for its longstanding design legacy.

A World Design Capital is designated every two years and recognises cities for their 'effective use of design to drive economic, social, cultural, and environmental development'.



Through a year-long programme of events, the designated city showcases best practices in sustainable design-led urban policy and innovation that improve quality of life.

Previous design capitals since 2008 are Torino, Italy; Seoul,South Korea; Helsinki Finland; Cape Town,South Africa; Taipei,Taiwan and Mexico City.

Lille Metropole,France holds the title for 2020.

Valencia plans a yearlong programme to celebrate its design capital status.

The city has impressive urban infrastructures that are directed towards coexisting with the natural and built environment.

The València City of Arts and Sciences provides visitors with an insight into València's cutting-edge design ahead of the celebration in 2022.
