Fishing the Orange River in South Africa

Farlows Travel has added Gkhui Gkhui in South Africa to its portfolio of fishing excursions.

Situated on the banks of the Orange River, the Ghkui Ghkui River Lodge is a premier destination for hard-fighting smallmouth and largemouth yellowfish on fly.

The species has seen huge growth in popularity in recent years and is an excellent and challenging quarry for the fly fisher.

Once the fish are caught, they are then released back into the river.

Reaching up to 40lbs, the Orange-Vaal smallmouth yellowfish makes for a challenge like prospecting trout or salmon with fish.

The Gkhui Gkhui River Lodge provides rapids on its doorstep with rocky hills in the background and the Orange River is a premier destination for the avid fly fisher, with its shallow rapids, long slow glides and big pools.

Since 1840 anglers heading to fish destinations worldwide have visited Farlows for equipment, clothing and expertise.
