Travellers searching for authentic adventure with comfort deep within the African bush will find both in abundance at Khwai Leadwood, an elegant new camp in Botswana from African Bush Camps.

Scheduled to open in August 2020 and set in the community-run Khwai Concession in Botswana's Okavango Delta, Khwai Leadwood will welcome guests to a beautiful setting shaded by leadwood and sycamore trees.

Botswana beckons

If you've been to Africa but haven't been to Botswana, then you're missing out on a fabulous destination. If you haven't been to Africa and plan to go, then Botswana would be a good place to start your experience.

One of Africa's most stable countries and also one of the safest, Botswana is the continent's longest continuous multi-party democracy. It is relatively free of corruption and has a good human rights record.

Sparsely populated, Botswana protects some of Africa's largest areas of wilderness and safari-based tourism is an important source of income. Wildlife is protected in the four national parks and numerous game reserves, extending to 105,000 square kilometres or around 18 per cent of the total land area.

Authentic African experience

Abutting the Moremi Game Reserve, Khwai Leadwood Camp will offer a range of immersive activities including mokoro adventures, game drives beneath the sun and stars, and walking safaris among abundant wildlife. According to Beks Ndlovu, a veteran professional guide who established African Bush Camps in 2006, Khwai Leadwood is the Okavango Delta extension of the old African experience that shapes their camps. "Travelling in Africa can often lack the true essence of its story, one that reveals the chemistry between the beauty and tragedies of the wild," he said.

"Khwai Leadwood combines luxurious modern finishes in one of the most culturally dynamic areas in the world. Our passionate guides and talented staff are here to reward guests with a safe and unforgettable stay."

See the famous Okavango Delta

Renowned as one of the leading wildlife areas in southern Africa, Moremi Game Reserve covers more than 40 percent of the Okavango. It is home to most predator species including wild dogs, leopards, hyena, and lions. Khwai Leadwood will be the 15th luxury camp from African Bush Camps, a luxury tent Safari operator in Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The Okavango Delta supports a world-famous variety of water-birds and attracts thousands of animals in the dry season. The Chobe National Park is home to more than 100,000 elephants.

A place to chill out

Intimate and sustainably built, the camp features six luxury twin/double tents and one family unit with capacity for 16 people. All rooms are designed for comfort and modern amenities include cooling fans, charging facilities, and private en suite bathrooms. Outfitted with indoor and outdoor showers, and private decks with day beds and a shading canvas overhang, the tents ensure a year-round at-home feel pleasantly disconnected from the hustle and bustle of working life.

Additional features include fresh, expertly prepared cuisine served at the communal dining deck. Special menu requests are happily tended to for all dietary requirements. The lounge and reading area feature a nearby bar serving African-inspired cocktails as well as wine and beer. The camp's swimming pool will be a popular spot to chill out and sip sundowners after day-long ventures into the bush. Adventure opportunities will abound, with daily game drives, walking safaris, and mokoro activities in the iconic 'African gondola' of the Okavango Delta led by African Bush Camps' professional guides. Night drives will also be available.

Khwai Leadwood will welcome guests age seven and over all year-round, with access from the Khwai Airstrip just minutes from camp, and accessible by air from Maun (30 minutes) and Kasane (1 hour).
