4 Rivers Floating Lodge in Cambodia rebuilt after disaster

AO-4-Rivers-_20191217-124205_1

The 4 Rivers Floating Lodge, which provides luxury and sustainable floating tents among untouched nature in Cambodia, has been rebuilt after particularly heavy rains destroyed most of the lodges.

4 Rivers Floating Lodge is known for its unique swimming tents on the river Tatai.

These were constructed to handle rising water up to a height of 2 meters.

However, after the heavy rains in 2018, the dam upstream was opened and the hotel could not withstand the sudden water masses, and the platform broke into six parts with the tents washed down the river.

Luckily, no one was injured and the Lodge team, as well as the neighbours of Tatai Village, Koh Andet and Koh Smach, began a recovery operation and a cost-intensive and protracted reconstruction of the hotel.

With the new building the location was changed and, today, the swimming tents are located on the opposite shore where the current is less strong.

For owners Anna and Valentin, sustainability plays a major role and today 95% of the required energy is sourced from their solar plant.

They have also planted ten different types of trees including four different bamboo species, including a special bamboo for drinking straws and banana palms whose sheets are used for food decorations and packaging was planted.
