Autumn hiking in the UK
Active holiday specialist Walkers' Britain is highlighting four of the best self-guided walking trips to take in autumn colour the UK.
Cotswold Way
While the Cotswolds is known for open escarpment, rolling farmland and picturesque villages, the route of the Cotswold Way, a National Trail, includes several sections that go through extensive woodland and scenic forested areas.
These include the ancient woodland of Cleeve Hill, Lineover Woods and the Standish Woods.

Coast to Coast Classic Walk
Forests offer contrast to open landscapes on England's Coast to Coast path.
There are quiet oak and birch woods that line streams and valleys in the Lake District to scattered ash and sycamore in the Yorkshire Dales.
In the North York Moors walkers can cross enclosed stretches of larger forests that combine tall conifers with pockets of broadleaf trees.
The Cumbria Way
Crossing through the heart of the Lake District National Park, the Cumbria Way passes through a mix of woodland and forested areas, including Grizedale Forest and the Borrowdale Oakwoods.
There is also Skiddaw Forest near Keswick, where Walkers' Britain supports the Cumbria Wildlife Trust's vision to create 620 acres of Atlantic rainforest.
The Cleveland Way
With approx. 80% of its route within the North York Moors National Park, the Cleveland Way is one of England's most varied National Trails.
Woodland stretches for walkers alongside coast and moorland include Guisborough Woods, known for its scenic viewpoints.
The craggy hill of 'Rosberry Topping', surrounded by extensive woodland area, can also be found here.
