Castle Elvira, Puglia
Castle Elvira, which is located, close to Lecce, will open in Spring 2022 after being abandoned for almost 100 years.
Set in 37 acres of private parkland, the original 20th century castle has undergone an extensive renovation over the past three years.
When it opens, Castle Elvira will feature original design details with an eclectic mix of contemporary and antique furnishings and modern technology.
The castle and its neighbouring cottage feature six en-suite guest bedrooms.
There is also a 70 square meter swimming pool, 12-person jacuzzi, piano room, cinema, multiple private and communal lounges and roof terrace.
Its private gardens feature citrus and olive groves.
Castle Elvira was originally built in the late 1800s but was abandoned soon after.
The property had been left decaying until its now owner Steve Riseley acquired the property in 2018 and set about restoring the castle and its grounds.
The legend behind Castle Elvira suggests that the castle was built by two adoring parents from Naples for their daughter Elvira's 17th birthday.
When Elvira died after eating poison mushrooms, her parents left the castle and it remained unoccupied until now.
Puglia, a southern region forming the heel of Italy's 'boot', is known for its whitewashed hill towns, farmland and a Mediterranean coastline.
