Catalonia the World Region of Gastronomy

AT-Catalonia-1

Catalonia is the 2025 World Region of Gastronomy, a distinction awarded by the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, and Tourism (IGCAT).

Catalonia is an autonomous Mediterranean region in north-eastern Spain with its own language (Catalan), government and a strong sense of identity.

The World Region of Gastronomy recognises Catalonia's 'gastronomic revolution goes beyond restaurants to showcase the region's unique local products'.

The Award serves to raise awareness of the importance of cultural and food in the region.

Catalonia has 62 restaurants holding Michelin stars, being the territory with the highest number of Michelin star restaurants.

In addition to Michelin stars, several Catalan restaurants also earned green stars for their commitment to sustainable practices in the kitchen.

Wine and Cava are also part of Catalonia's history, with 12 denominations of origin and over 300 wineries along nine wine routes.

There are also 12 products with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and 10 with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), many of which you can be discovered via their producers all year round.
