Craft beer in America

Craft brewers in the USA look to capture the life and distinct culture of the local area in its branding.

Micro-breweries, tap-rooms, brewpubs, and bottle shops across the country serve up brewed ambers, hoppy IPA's, and porters.



Wisconsin

Brewing beer has been a Wisconsin tradition since the 1830s with household names such as Pabst Blue Ribbon and Miller High-Life deriving from the state.

The city of Milwaukee has over 30 breweries and State-wide there many more including the New Glarus Brewing Company founded in 1993 by Deb Carey, the first woman to set up and operate a brewery in the United States.

The Great Lakes region: Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan

The Goose Island brewery in Chicago has two brewpubs and some of the best beer in the Midwest.

In Munster, Indiana, 3 Floyds Brewing is heralded and Grand Rapids has a Beer City Ale Trail and 30 breweries including Founders Brewing.

Colorado

The Rocky Mountains state of Colorado has a strong brewing tradition since the Coors Brewing set up 147 years ago.

It is now home to 400 breweries including Odell Brewing, Oskar Blues, Great Divide Brewing and Boulder Beer Company.

New Belgium Brewing, with its Fat Tire Amber Ale, run tours at its Fort Collins location, as does Left Hand Brewing, known for its popular Milk Stout.

The annual Colorado Brewers' Festival takes place in Fort Collins each June and the Colorado Brewers Rendezvous in Salida every July.

North Carolina

Known as the 'State of Southern Beer', North Carolina has the largest number of craft breweries in the American South, with more than 300 craft breweries.

California

California is the biggest craft-beer-producing state with over 900 breweries, like Anchor Brewing, San Francisco, New Albion Brewing Co., Sonoma, and the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company of Chico.

The Russian River Brewing Company offers 20 brews in its Santa Rosa taproom.

San Francisco has over 30 breweries, including Paso Robles, home to Firestone Walker Brewing Company, and San Diego has 130 breweries including AleSmith, Alpine Beer Company and Ballast Point.

Vermont

Vermont has more craft breweries per-capita than any other state including the Magic Hat Brewery in Burlington with free tours where you can try its apricot infused No.9 or unfiltered hefeweizen, Circus Boy.

Maine

Maine has over 100 breweries with many of them using local homegrown hops, barley, and oats for the malt.

The Allagash Brewing Company, located in Portland, uses wild Maine yeast to craft some of its beers.

Massachusetts

Massachusetts has over 130 breweries to visit including The Boston Beer Company, better known as the Samuel Adams brewery, which offers free tours of the brewery.
