Recommendations for visiting the downtown of Haifa

Haifa is the third-largest city in Israel. It is built on a mountainside, surrounded by the Mediterranean sea. Downtown Haifa is where the city meets the sea and the port.

Until the 1970s, the Downtown area was Haifa's main business center. but then it was neglected for many years, up until 5 years ago when it became the renewable culinary, nightlife and creative center of the city.

During day time you can find there several artistic workshops and boutiques, alongside lots of restaurants, mainly in the renovated Hanamal street and in the Turkish market.

In the evening the whole area comes to life and all the restaurants and pubes are filled with young people.

The culinary in this area are endless, starting with local middle east food, through international cuisine to modern Israeli cuisine,

What is so interesting in downtown Haifa is the atmosphere that expresses the coexistence in the city and the diversity, cultural difference and national identity of each community. Haifa is well known for its mixed population of Jews, Muslims and Christians. Each religion contributes to Haifa's unique culture and urban existence.

Another aspect of this area is the graffiti, which you can see on Hanamal st and the small streets

If you wish to learn more about Downtown Haifa culture, you can join some of the guided tours there - Culinary tours, Graffity tours, Makers tours, etc.

You can combine visiting downtown with Nisnas Market (which is a colorful Arab food market) or the German colony with the famous Bahai Gardens.
