FIVE the Musical Parody — This is What American Political Junkies Look Like!

FIVE
Off-Broadway New York Show Find-- for politically minded...

Do tourists ever get the local jokes?

Does Trump Comedy Make TransAtlantic Sense?

Backtracking, does ANY comedy register when a geographic and cultural divide is at work?

Talk to a stand up comic long enough about their challenges and they will likely tell you about the time they tried to take their successful act on the road and joke after joke fell flat.Comedy, they assert, is pretty darn local. Having once sat in a hip London comedy club thinking the standup was chatting in Greek, it's easy to agree.

Then again, think of the likes of Trevor Noah.South African born and bred, whom most Americans of like progressive mind would agree is on the shortest of short lists of those who fearlessly take on the antics of Trump et al with X-ray precision that is as nuanced as you can get.Late night US TV has more or less been living off Trump jokes ever since he and Melania took the famed ride down the Trump Tower escalator.

FIVE, gives you a chance to decide for yourself. It's a new parody of the British Export-to-Broadway musical of SIX, where Henry VIII's many wives compete for recognition as THE wife most abused by the famed King. The SIX transplant to US soil was and is a Broadway favorite, and now touring across the United States gaining praise far and wide.

SIX is so successful that it has spawned a parody. We're now in Trump time and place.FIVE includes: Ivana (the first wife), Marla (the brief second wife), Melania (the current wife), Ivanka (the nepo-baby daughter whom Trump has said he'd date if she wasn't his daughter), and Stormy (the porn actress whom Trump slept with and who now has a real-life starring role in the first of the Trump court cases that just might really come to trial before the next US election.). SPOILER ALERT: There actually is a SIXTH.Hillary Clinton performed by a drag queen just about steals the show.

If you're an anglophone in New York, FIVE is more than anything else, a chance to join the tribe of political junkies of progressive persuasion who come to enjoy the red meat of a Trump joke-a-thon.More millennial than grey hairs, some dressed to make a non-binary statement, and others just telegraphing what New York City hipster looks like circa now—- it's a fun audience to be in.This is the kind of crowd that doesn't give a darn that the script sounds like it was hastily crafted over a case of beeror two in the basement.(Read the review in the link below — FIVE The Parody Musical Review — Pressure Relief Valve).

You'll probably like FIVE, even if you don't get all the American vernacular joking and don't know the play-by-play details of Trumpism's spread. It's "gallows humor".You are in what might be the "bluest" city in America. The Off-broadway theater is in an area called "Hell's Kitchen".Forget the taxi.Take the train to Times Square so you can feel the change from Broadway to Off-Broadway.
