Flights to the Faroe from London

AO-Faroe-1

Atlantic Airways, the Faroese national carrier, is looking to launch a new direct flight from London Gatwick to Vágar Airport, in the Faroe Islands.

The launch date was set for 23 June 2020, but may be subject to delay.

The Faroe Islands is a self-governing archipelago, part of the Kingdom of Denmark, comprising 18 rocky, volcanic islands located between Iceland and Norway in the North Atlantic Ocean thatare connected by road tunnels, ferries, causeways and bridges.

Hikers and bird-watchers are drawn to the islands' mountains, valleys and grassy heathland, and steep coastal cliffs that harbor thousands of seabirds.

The Atlantic Airways weekly (Tuesday) service will be the first direct flight from London since 2014 and will boost the already steady growth in visitor numbers to the Faroe Islands.

In addition, the remotely-located restaurant KOKS has retained its two Michelin stars and received the new Green Clover award by the Michelin Guide team in recognition of its efforts to promote sustainability.

The Faroe Islands will also see the opening of Hotel Brandan, a new independent four-star hotel, in the Faroe capital, Tórshavn.

Hilton Garden Inn is also set to open a new four-star hotel.

The islands also offer other locally-managed hotels, B&B accommodation run by locals and home-stays, for those who are interested in better understanding the culture of this remote island nation.
