Banff Wilderness Rides

Ranch Rider's new Banff Wilderness Rides in Alberta trails taking riders deep into the Canadian Rockies.

Riders can spot the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep, Canada Goose, White-tailed deer, Coyote, Black Bear and, for the first time, Wild Plains Bison.

Parks Canada reintroduced a 31-strong bison herd to the area surrounding Flint's Park (one of Banff's most remote backcountry campsites) in 2018.

North America's largest mammal had been lost to this landscape for over 150 years.

Now a thriving herd, two calves were spotted ambling across the high meadows with their mothers last summer.

Nine Quarter Circle Ranch, Montana

Riders can catch sight of a bear when staying at Montana's family-friendly"Nine Quarter Circle Ranch (the latest addition to Ranch Rider's Big Sky collection), being 30 miles from Yellowstone National Park.

Elk, deer, moose, bighorn sheep, and grizzly and black bears often grace the horseback trails in this remote part of Montana.

Siwash Lake Luxury Guest Ranch, British Columbia

Guests at British Columbia's Siwash Lake Luxury Guest Ranch can learn about climate change on the Waterfall Ecology Hike.

Located in Cariboo country and surrounded by 80,000 acres of wilderness, the guided trek passes through a fire-licked forest.

The ranch was hit by a rank six conflagration,the most extreme of all forest fires, back in 2017.

The ranch also offers unlimited daily horseback riding, additional pursuits including, fly fishing, canoeing, river and lake swimming, bird watching, wildlife viewing and skeet shooting.

Chico Basin Ranch, Colorado

Colorado's Chico Basin Ranch is located thirty minutes southeast of Colorado Springs and owned by the Colorado State Land Board.

This working cattle ranch uses age-old sustainable ranching practices and progressive grazing management to maintain healthy lands, the stay ideal for eco-centric travellers hoping to try out at being a cowhand.

Taking a maximum of six guests, the atmosphere keeps the focus on gaining an in-depth appreciation of authentic ranch life, the mornings spent gathering a pasture or moving a herd, and the afternoons focused on tending to the needs of the livestock.

Triple B Ranch, South Africa

Ranch Rider is introducing eight and nine-night Authentic Africa experiences on South Africa's Triple B Ranch.

This will comprise six nights at Horizon Lodge, a historic family estate in the malaria-free Waterberg region, and two or three nights at neighbouring Camp Davidson.

The Triple B Ranch is home to a huge variety of wildlife including hippo, giraffe, zebra, antelope and over 300 bird species.

Kay El Bar Ranch, Arizona

Listed on the U.S. national registry of historic places, Arizona's Kay El Bar Ranch will open for its first summer in 2020.

The property is located in the Northwest Arizona desert, in the shadow of the Hassayampa River Canyon Wilderness.

The main focus of the stay is horse riding - team penning, hiking and bird watching alternative activities.

It is a five-minute drive from historic Wickenburg, the old gold mining town.

Big Creek Guest Ranch, British Columbia

The Big Creek Ranch's New Adventure Camp is located in remote Chilcotin backcountry near the Anvil Mountain.

Inaccessible by anything other than a horse, a 20 kilometre horseback journey will take guests through the Big Creek Provincial Park.

The Jackpine, Spruce and Balsam forests are broken up by swampy creeks and meadows, the berries and plants attracting a wide variety of wildlife including bear, moose, deer, wolves and coyotes.
