AllWays Traveller Features
Gaya Island
Borneo is a rugged island in Southeast Asia's Malay Archipelago that is shared by the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak, Indonesian Kalimantan and Brunei.
It's known for its beaches and rainforest, which is home to wildlife including orangutans and clouded leopards.
Gaya Island is located within the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, a group of five islands with fringing coral reefs.
The 5 star Gaya Island Resort offers a coral planting experience as part of the ongoing restoration through the Gaya Island Resort Marine Centre.
The marine centre's coral nursery provides an on-land opportunity for guests to become engaged with coral reef conservation and a controlled environment for freshly planted corals to recover.
The centre also rescues and cares for endangered green sea turtles one critically-endangered Hawksbill.
There are also protected mangroves, sheltered coral reefs and a sandy coastline.
The resort also offers guided rainforest walk and a kayak trip through the mangroves.
