Ile de Ré

AO-Il-de-5

The Ile de Ré is an island off the west coast of France.

Its beaches like the Plage de la Conche des Baleines are backed by dunes and pine trees.

The main town of St-Martin-de-Ré has the 17th-century Fortifications of Vauban, plus outdoor cafes overlooking the marina.

Bicycle paths crisscross the island.

The island claims to enjoy as many hours of sunshine as the South of France, yet the Ile de Ré offers a more low-key alternative to its Southern sister.

With its salt marshes, long stretches of sandy beaches, over 100km of cycle routes winding through cornfields and vineyards and picturesque villages.

Stay

Stay at the five-star quayside L'Hotel de Toiras or the Villa Clarisse in Saint-Martin-de-Ré.

L'Hotel de Toiras and Villa Clarisse, Ile de Ré

L'Hotel de Toiras

Located on Saint-Martin-de-Ré's harbour, L'Hotel de Toiras is a restored 17th-century merchant's house complete with toile, plush furnishings and archive wallpapers throughout.

The hotel's restaurant, La Table d'Olivia, is headed up by Executive Chef and previously Michelin-Star holder, Thibault Peyroche.

Villa Clarisse

This 18th-century mansion is located in a quiet cobbled street in the heart of Saint-Martin-de-Ré.

Decorated in neutral tones, cool fabrics and understated design, Villa Clarisse reflects the island's stripped-back blanched style.
