Omni Tucson resort unveils new look
A prime destination for serious golfers, Omni Tucson National Resort has announced the completion of its highly anticipated, multi-million-dollar refurbishment.
With two distinctive championship golf courses, the resort has been upgraded with luxury accommodations, a vibrant lobby transformation, new dining offerings and more.Nestled in the foothills of Arizona's Santa Catalina Mountains, the natural beauty of the resort's surroundings is the inspiration behind the entire renovation. The resort has a total of 130 guest suites, comprising 79 deluxe and premier guestrooms in the main building, all refurbished with a bright and modern Southwestern residential feel, and 51 remodelled Casitas and Haciendas Suites with secluded patios and panoramic views of the surrounding courses.
Beyond the upgraded accommodations, a relaxed Southwestern ambiance permeates the entire resort. Guests are welcomed by the colours of the surrounding desert landscape with a palette that reflects the day-to-night transformation of the magnificent scenery.
Wellness retreat
There is something about the desert that is different to all other environments. The intensity of the sun beating down from a cloudless, deep blue sky, the consistency of the landscape and the feeling of timelessness all combine to create a sense of awe.
The calming effect of the desert is accentuated with the addition of Mokara Spa, Omni Hotels & Resorts' signature wellness offering. Designed with organic and earthy touches, the 9,000 square-foot (836 square-metre) state-of-the-art facility features a staggering 12 treatment rooms and a wide variety of services for individuals, couples and groups including a sauna and a Vichy shower room. A full menu of salon services and an all-new fitness centre complete the wellness retreat.
New food and beverage offerings
The new dining experience comprises three new restaurants and lounges and local favourites like Bob's Steak & Chop House – the Arizona outpost of the Texas staple, synonymous with fine steaks for nearly 20 years.
Additional new venues include:
The Peak, a dazzling new lounge inviting guests to relax over cocktails. The racetrack-style bar is the centrepiece of the venue, which offers both indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the Sweet Water pool and with mountain views.
Terra Cotta Café, a casual coffee market welcoming guests to start their day with a full range of coffee, tea and pastries for breakfast on the go, or for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up with both indoor and outdoor seating.
Desert Farmer, welcoming guests for breakfast with a quintessentially modern Southwestern vibe, with menu items ranging from smothered waffles with jalapeño and cumin bacon to deep-dish quiche with turkey chorizo.
Legends Bar & Grill, an upgraded amenity at the nineteenth-hole, featuring art and memorabilia that pay homage to the golf course design with mementos from the past.
Modern meeting spaces
More than 25,000 square feet (2,322 square metres) of indoor and outdoor meeting space has been remodelled to present a fresh, modern look. Boasting natural light, linen-less meeting tables and what it calls extraordinary banquet capabilities, the resort offers custom-made solutions for any event, large or small. Thirteen well-planned meeting options include the 2,870 square-foot (267 square-metre) Papago Ballroom and the Norville Lawn, the resort's largest outdoor space with an area of 6,000 square-feet (557 square metres).
Outdoors
Rich in recreational activities, the resort features two resort-style pools with private cabanas, three tennis courts, one pickleball court and two acclaimed golf courses – the Catalina Course and the Sonoran Course.
The Catalina, the resort's original course, has been host to more than 30 PGA tour events and is known for its magnificent views with gentle contours and tree-lined fairways. It offers a more traditional parkland layout while the Sonoran Course offers a challenging game of true desert golf. The desert-style layout features steep elevation changes and, according to Golf Pass, some unusual uphill/downhill shot opportunities not typically found in Tucson.
Nearby attractions
The hotel is located in a prime location adjacent to Tucson's lively entertainment, retail and cultural district. There are many other attractions in the broader area including the Pima Air and Space Museum, the Titan Missile Museum at Green Valley and a little farther south, the charming village of Tubac.
Not widely known beyond Southern Arizona, Tubac is nestled between the Tumacacori and Santa Rita mountain ranges in Santa Cruz County, 45 minutes south of Tucson just off the I-19. I can thoroughly recommend it, having stayed there for a whole month.
Established in 1752, Tubac is a former Spanish presidio turned artists' colony. The heart of the community is the Tubac Village, frequently labelled the place where art and history meet. With over 100 shops, galleries and restaurants and numerous heritage buildings, the village is heaven for those who love arts and crafts and interesting architecture.
The village is also home to the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park and just to the south is the Tumacacori National Historical Park, one of the areas where the stunning Saguaro cactus grows.
