Sensational Stays: Hammock Beach Golf Resort and Spa
During a spring trip to Florida, I stayed in the main tower in a premium one-bedroom suite with an ocean view. The 665 sq. ft. studio-style room provides a comfortable living area, multiple TVs (which I never turned on), and a furnished balcony perfect for coffee and sunrises. Stacking in at 6' 2", I was appreciative of the large "garden tub." There is a kitchenette with a fridge and small cooktop (which I never turned on). Tastefully appointed to match the coastal theme of the resort, the room was comfortable whether relaxing on the sleeper sofa or the king size bed with high quality linens.
Those staying in the South Ocean Tower and The Lodge have dedicated pools, but the big water draw is the Fantasy Pool Complex located nearest the Main Tower. The complex includes a lazy river, activity area with a tunnel slide for kids, and an adult only area with pool and oversized hot tub. Swimming for exercise is best at the indoor pool, which also has two semi-private hot tubs for after workout relaxing (an open-air shower is available).
The grounds of Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa are stunning, with ponds and walkways leading throughout the property. Hotel team members are seemingly everywhere to help with any request, whether it is directions, a restaurant's hours, or even for friendly banter. Oh, and there is golf! Two courses challenge golfers: the Ocean Course designed by Jack Nicklaus and the Conservatory Course designed by Tom Watson.
Guests entering the Main Tower for the first time are captivated by high ceilings, ivory-colored walls with wood accents, and a tile floor. The check in/concierge station is offset from the main entrance. The spacious main area is home to a lounge bar, plenty of seating for either relaxing or as a meeting point for friends and families, and home to Beach Brew coffee shop.
The resort is home to four restaurants and three casual eateries. Delfinos Italian Chophouse is a fine dining affair. And Loggerheads Sports Pub offers a more casual atmosphere with elevated pub grub. Stix is a dinner-only sushi restaurant. The ocean facing Atlantic Grille is the only restaurant on the premises open to the public. Poolside dining at the complex is served by the Ocean Bar Café.
The oceanside town of Flagler Beach is a quick 20-minute drive south for those who decide to head out of the resort. Restaurants like Next Door Beach Bistro offer a beach-casual meets fine dining flair for food. While lively spots like Oceanside Beach Bar & Grill and Tortugas Florida Kitchen and Bar are hotspots for both Flagler Beach locals and visitors.
