The Grand Hotel, Eastbourne, Sussex

The Grand Hotel is the only five-star hotel in the seaside resort of Eastbourne

The seafront hotel which is known locally as the White Palace has, over the years, hosted Charlie Chaplin and classical composers Debussy and Elgar.



The hotel has 152 bedrooms and suites, many with sweeping sea views, balconies, or private patios.

The Grand Afternoon Tea is served daily in the Great Hall, from where the BBC used to broadcast its weekly Grand Hotel radio broadcasts before the Second World War.

The hotel is located at the start of the South Downs Way and close to Beachy Head and Birling Gap.

The South Downs Way, one of 16 National Trails in England and Wales, is a long distance footpath and bridleway running for 160 km from Eastbourne to Winchester in Hampshire.

In Eastbourne itself, Devonshire Park holds international tennis tournaments each summer.

The town also hosts Eastbourne Airbourne, the largest free seaside air show in the world.
