AT-Whales-Humpback-1

Special Tours offers departures from Akureyri, Iceland's 'whale watching capital'.

Akureyri, a town in northern Iceland is often referred to as the 'Capital of the North'.

It is located at the base of the Eyjafjörður Fjord, is surrounded by mountains and, despite its proximity to the Arctic Circle, has a relatively mild climate.

Trips are guided by Special Tours experts aboard the fast and stable cruising ship Lilja.

Passengers will see humpbacks and minke whales in their natural habitat.

Akureyri, often called the 'whale capital; is known for a 98% success rate for whale sightings, along with white-beaked dolphins, harbor porpoises, and seals.

The tours run during the peak whale season from May to September.

Special Tours is one of Iceland's leading boat tour operators, and part of Arctic Adventures, offer whale watching, puffin tours, northern lights cruises and sea angling adventures from Reykjavík's Old Harbour and Akureyri in the North.

With a focus on responsible wildlife tourism, Special Tours provides opportunities to see Iceland's rich marine life up close.
