Desert & Delta Safaris and Elephants Without Borders
Luxury Botswana safari operator Desert & Delta Safaris is supporting Elephants Without Borders to assist local farmers and communities living in wildlife areas.
A recent initiative called The Cares Movement, enabled guests to book a safari at 2020 rates that they can take up to the end of 2022, with $10 of every $100 of revenue generated being donated to Elephants Without Borders.
Human-elephant conflict is the leading dilemma for the conservation of elephants across the world.
Living with the largest land mammal can result in elephants crop-raiding and be life-threatening when living and sharing the space with wild elephants.
The funds raised by Desert & Delta Safaris will support Elephants Without Borders in the distribution its EleSenses toolkit.
This is a low-cost, user-friendly, mobile solar-powered mitigation system aimed to protect human lives and property.
One of the techniques is a multi-coloured solar strobe light system referred to as the 'disco effect'.
It acts as a barrier to potential crop-raiding elephants, and discourages them from entering a field at night.
Founded in 1982, Desert & Delta Safaris is one of the original safari operators in Botswana, and now offers seven camps in prime locations in northern Botswana's game reserves and national parks with another across the Chobe River in Namibia's Eastern Caprivi Strip.
They employ approximately 320 staff members within safari lodges and all the guides are recruited from nearby villages.
