Catalonia
The Catalonia region, in northeastern Spain, is a Mediterranean destination with its own culture and language, a historical and natural heritage.
It has a climate of dry, warm summers and moderately cool winters.
Barcelona, the regional capital, has a historic Gothic Quarter, La Rambla pedestrian mall, museums and several beaches.
Antoni Gaudí's distinctive modern art and architecture can be seen at the Sagrada Família Basilica and in the colourful outdoor mosaics of Park Güell.
While the Catalan Pyrenees with their 3000-meter peaks are a place for skiing, winter tourism, hiking and active tourism, the 580 kilometres of Catalan coastline combine steep cliffs with hidden coves, long sandy beaches and a wide range of water sports.
There are also inland towns with a distinctive character and heritage.
Catalonia also has nine protected seaside areas that enjoy environmental conservation while offering a combination of sustainable tourism and leisure.
Catalonia World Region of Gastronomy in 2025
Catalonia will be the 2025 World Region of Gastronomy, a distinction awarded by the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, and Tourism (IGCAT).
The designation come in recognition of Catalonia's 'innovative tourism model, where the gastronomic revolution goes beyond restaurants, showcasing the region's unique local products'.

Barcelona to host 37th America's Cup in 2024
The America's Cup, the most important regatta in the world, will take place in Barcelona between August and October 2024.
It is the 3rd sport competition with the highest economic impact on the host country, after the Olympic Games and the World Cup.
Spectators will be able to follow the competition for free from the Port of Barcelona.
There will also be an Official Exhibition Centre to complete the America's Cup Experience, located in the Port Vell in Barcelona, next to the bases of the main teams.
The Pyrenees and Terres de Lleida
The Pyrenees and Terres de Lleida have been designated a Biosphere Gold Destination by the Responsible Tourism Institute.
The new certification recognises the sustainable tourism developed in the area and also acknowledges the effort of tourism companies and organisations in the area that are committed to sustainability.
