Saint Lucia introduces tourism levy
The Government of Saint Lucia has introduced the Tourism Levy, with revenue collected from this tax earmarked for tourism marketing and development.
Saint Lucia is an Eastern Caribbean island nation with a pair of dramatically tapered mountains, the Pitons, on its west coast. Its coast is home to volcanic beaches, reef-diving sites, luxury resorts and fishing villages.
Trails in the interior rainforest lead to waterfalls like the 15m-high Toraille, which cascades over a cliff into a garden. The capital, Castries, is a popular cruise port.
Guests staying at registered accommodation service providers will be charged US$3.00 or US$6.00 per person per night, depending on a room rate below or above US$120.00.
The fee will not apply to children under 12 years with a rate of 50% for guests who are 12 to 17 years at the end of their stay.
