The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado
Named one of the best horror tales, Stephen King's 'The Shining' celebrates its 45th anniversary this year.
While living in nearby Boulder, the hotel was recommended to King and his wife but, on arrival, they found they were the only guests staying that night.
This created an eerie feel which served as inspiration for the Overlook Hotel.
Located in the Rocky Mountains, The Stanley Hotel was built in 1909 and still retains its history, attracting a large number of The Shining fans each year.
The interior has been renovated over time but still has a turn-of-the-century feel and is said to have 'high spirited activity.'
The nearby mountain village of Estes Park has Elkhorn Avenue and Moraine Avenue, with more than 200 shops, restaurants and galleries.
Estes Park is also the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park that has mountains, alpine lakes and a wide range of wildlife in various climates, from green forests to snowy mountaintops.
It offers opportunities for hiking, cycling, camping, rock climbing and water sports.
